G.I. Joe Inside The Filecards Featuring ‘CRANKCASE’!

G.I. Joe Crankcase is listed as “Motor Vehicle Driver” for his PMS and “Armor” as his SMS. So motor vehicle driver would most likely be a 88M Motor Vehicle Operator MOS in the US Army, basically a truck driver. Since it lists him as attending Transportation School that MOS would be the most logical within that branch.

Armor could mean either a 19K M1 Armor Crewman or a 19D Cavalry Scout. Since Crankcase is driving a light attack vehicle I like to think he was a 19 Cavalry Scout, who typically ride in Humvee’s, Strykers and M3 Bradleys. Their job is to scout ahead of the main body and engage with the enemy if they are caught and need to break contact. Hence why scouts deploy in vehicles lighter than a tank. My minor gripe with his military specialties is I wish they were reversed, in other words he started out as 88M then re-classed to a 19D. This would make more sense as it applies to the AWE Striker that he comes with.

Crankcase also attended Ranger School, Desert Warfare School and the SAS Tactical Driving School. Not sure if that is an actual school by that name in the SAS but I am sure they have that kind of school to train their Mobility team members. Exchange programs amongst NATO members is also pretty commom. Since desert warfare training is listed as one of the school Crankcase attended it is possible he may be up to par with Dusty in terms of desert survival.

I remember it being mentioned a long while ago on the insignia on his right sleeve but I cannot place it. If anyone knows please share.
